Suggestion: Allow apps to set "reminders"

I am investigating building an application that allows the Echo to work with a CRM system, and one function I'd love to bring forward is the ability to have the echo remind you of an upcoming call. For example, if you have a call scheduled at 3PM, you could have a reminder go off at 2:55PM. Ideally, the independent app could do a push notification (hat tip to the request for that on the board), but it would be sufficient if we could set a time for the reminder along with a brief text to be spoken when the reminder goes off (e.g., "You have a call with your boss in 5 minutes"). I could imagine other uses: a health app issuing a reminder every half hour to stand up and stretch; a TV schedule app that reminds you when a show is about to start; or a simple calendar plug-in that issues reminders. Other applications could really use a full set of push notifications. A financial app could alert you when a stock crosses a limit. A weather app could relay a new hazardous weather warning. Alexa could read incoming text messages. Although there are many other ways to deliver notifications to people, having Alexa speak up when something important is happening would add a lot of value to people who use the Echo... I appreciate the challenges involved, especially in keeping Alexa from becoming a distracting chatterbox...

I think this is a great idea, and push notifications would be awesome for many reasons, similar to the ones listed here.

When i suggested the push notifications, apps were open ended... and a few days later they said apps won't be, so we will see how that turns out. I am very for push notifications, if there is a way to tell that you're still in the app

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the suggestions. As early testers, we rely on feedback to make the SDK and app process better for everyone. Thanks, Nick
