There are some 3rd party solutions. Mine is here: https://forums.developer.amazon.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=9304&tstart=0 It allows for color changing, saving and recalling scenes, and scheduling of lighting events. I've put the code up on Github, and there's a video of it in action, too.

Thanks Steven. This does look great but I was hoping for Amazon and or Phillips to improve what they already have as a standard skill.

One note on that is if Phillips and Amazon do it, you can be sure that they're not going to give you access to the pointsymbol api on the Hue (I'm not sure if they even still document it). That's probably not a big loss for most people, since its use was largely a mysterious black box, and the only thing people figured out how to do was make a sweet strobe light effect, but I figured it's worth pointing out that there are certain advantages of having a third party do it. Plus, I really like to be obnoxious and trigger the strobe sometimes when people weren't expecting it. =)
