Ads

The documentation says that "In subsequent times that a user either launches or resumes the app, paid interstitial ads will also sometimes play." How often is "sometimes"?

Thank you for your feedback. We are continuously working to improve our documentation and your input is very valuable to us. To address your questions: 1. Will they include video/sound There will not be any video ads at the moment and these ads do not contain sound. 2. can I block competitor app ads Yes, you can go to developer portal and add blacklist categories and keywords. Log in to Developer Portal and click on "Settings", and then click on "Mobile Ads" 3. will they require user interaction to pass (like a survey) or a timed wait (skip after 10 seconds) No. The user can tap the X at the top right corner of the screen to immediately bypass the ad 4. Does your statement of 10-20% mean that one in every 5-10 times they open the app they will see an ad? Yes. There is also a cooldown period. If a user launches an app and gets an ad, they will not see another ad for the same app for 1.5 hours (after which the 10-20% rule will apply). If the user switches between two Underground apps, they will not see another ad in front of the second app for 30 minutes. These values can change over time as we test options to optimize for customer engagement with Underground apps. 5. Does resuming from sleep/background while the app is still in memory count as loading? Yes it does.

I would also like to know this, I only found it mentioned one in the documentation as: "Interstitial Advertisements When a user launches an Amazon Underground app for the first time, a welcome message in the form of an interstitial ad plays. In subsequent times that a user either launches or resumes the app, paid interstitial ads will also sometimes play. You do not need to do anything to enable these ads. Amazon configures the ads when your app is published to Amazon Underground."

Presitials will show up upon the first load (and occasionally afterwards if, for example, the ad fails to load) and ads will show up between 10-20% of the time.

Thank you, You really need to provide much more documentation on the advertising aspect (or make it easier to find). As a developer there are some things I am very concerned with, the frequency of the ads is one, the ad content is also very important : Will they include video/sound, can I block competitor app ads, will they require user interaction to pass (like a survey) or a timed wait (skip after 10 seconds). Does your statement of 10-20% mean that one in every 5-10 times they open the app they will see an ad? Does resuming from sleep/background while the app is still in memory count as loading? All of these factors make a huge difference in the user experience with the app, and as developers we care about that very much. I'm currently trying to decide if it is worth jumping through the hoops to participate in Underground with my new app. I strongly support the idea behind this move, but the lack of details is troubling.

You state that they can click the X to bypass the ad, will there be a similar mechanism for Fire TV and Fire Stick?
