service down? Experiencing "Error: Failed building the interaction model."

I am seeing this error after waiting a while for the process to return. I'm pretty sure the model is OK, as I made only a very minor change to one that worked before and also I put in a new one from the favoriteColors example which also fails. Noted that this has come up in the past but not seeing anything about it today, so I am wondering if it is the models, my account, or the system. If it is the system, then I'd suggest to Amazon to have a notice on this board of system status.
