Suggestion: Provide Built-in Slot Types for Albums, Artists, Movies, etc.
Amazon already has giant databases of every album, artist, track, movie, actor, etc. If these were exposed as built-in slot types, it would make it very easy to build interesting media controller apps without trying to hack around with literals and custom slots. Edit: This should have gone to the Feature Requests forum instead.
+1 This is a great idea. I have a skill in the works that requires recognition of artists/songs. My impressions (based on nothing but my impressions) is that the "music database" you mention is already accessed in this context. I can ask for obscure artists with foreign names ("Play Tomas Stanko") and the recognition accuracy is, well, surprisingly good.
Yeah, I remember being rather astonished that Alexa recognized Horslips, my favorite, but highly obscure, band! If you take this suggestion to the ultimate conclusion, there are quite a variety of lists of things that could be enabled. Rather then do them all piecemeal, what would be interesting is to enable the community to create and curate shared lists of custom slots. Instead of AMAZON.vegetables, it could be COMMUNITY.vegetables. If they don't want to get into community maintenance, then one way to do it would be to say that when someone wants to put forward a community list, they register the name and point at a GitHub community, that has the data file in a specific location within the project. That way each list can be managed by its own community in its own way.
