Reliability

I signed up for the 3 month trial and am using this as storage for Stablebit's CloudDrive. I have noticed that Amazon Cloud Drive is returning lots of errors while uploading data. It looks to be from Amazon side of things and users have been reporting similar problems. I need stable and reliable storage platform and experimenting and researching yesterday didn't look promising.

Hi there, Thanks for posting. Errors could be based on quite a few factors, including user error, temporary backend work, or even production upload rates (apps that are not yet approved do not have higher rates applied to their apps). If you could let me know about any specific issues you're concerned about, I can investigate, but I'd suggest trying it out and seeing if the API suits your needs yourself. Thanks! Jamie

StableBit CloudDrive doesn't yet have production rates, so is heavily rate limited. Unfortunately, they seem to be having communication issues with Amazon with regards to getting it approved. It was briefly approved in September, but was apparently revoked again after excessive network usage from a single user. It'll be great if you guys at Amazon could contact the devs to work out whatever issues there are with approval. In the long run, I see their product being a great companion to Amazon Cloud Drive. The way they cache often accessed data locally ultimately means less load on the Amazon servers compared to other offerings (eg NetDrive, Goodsync), and will surely attract more customers to Amazon.

Most likely, those devs are going to have to continue to reach out to the Amazon cloud drive api support team themselves. Amazon has a lot of apps trying to get approval, so while they could wait and see if Amazon contacts them, I wouldn't suggest it.

From what I understand, the devs have been trying to contact the Amazon team but are struggling to get a response.

and unfortunately it seems that they are putting amazon cloud drive on hold. must say that Stablebit by far seems as the best platform for forming virtual drives on cloud services so it really sucks to see this. They try to get in contact with amazon but get no response... so sad that amazon is going to loose this app as it couldve brougt a lot more customers. If amazon reads this i really hope that they will reply to their sent questions and quickly help them solve the issues they had, until then i cant be a customer as netdrive and expandrive is greatly limited in capabilities compared to what Stylebit offers.

From what I know, Amazon is very strict on how desktop apps interact with their cloud drive api. At this point, I've only developed against their api on mobile platforms, but I can attest that you have to be very diligent in testing how a large number of transfers coming from your app affects their api. I think it's a little telling that it was mentioned that one user's activity was able to cause Amazon to revoke that app's production rate limits. Whatever your thoughts might be on the subject, you can't execute 1000's of concurrent requests against their api from a single endpoint. I can only guess, but it sounds like that's what happened. That will only get your app rejected.

And they wanted to fix this to run within their rules - but with no response from Amazon it's impossible to know what to fix properly! And waiting a couple of months to get it checked again is just nonsense. They got working with other providers, only amazon seems to be the great issue which now have brought them to abandon it due to the constant lack of response from amazon. You would imagine that amazon wants apps which could drive a user base, but seems it's not the case

I've looked through Stablebit's support forum. Their devs have posted a fairly detailed description of the issues that they were seeing. A lot of those 500/404 errors occurred during the window when all of us were seeing issues. Those have since been fixed by Amazon. They do suggest that there were data integrity issues, of which I've never experienced, so I can't comment on that. It appears that they'll be moving their Cloud Drive support to experimental status, and from their attitude towards this whole thing, I wouldn't expect that to change.

Yea seems so, it's such a shame. As a fellow developer i know the frustration when not getting replies when working with API's :) Hopefully this is only a short experimental period, as i still believe that this app has a lot more potential than netdrive or expandrive who practically are doing nothing to fix the bugs they have...
