AmazonApps-release.zip or AmazonApps-release.apk?

On amazon official web site, I did find and could download the setup package file for Amazon Appstore. http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android/ref=mas_rw_ldg/189-0335814-2308716 But the file I have gotten after I click 'download the Amazon Appstore' is named with AmazonApps-release.zip. Its extension is zip other than apk. Now, could we install a .zip file directly on android devices? Or is there something wrong with the web page?

Hi Dave, You are correct in that you cannot directly install a .zip file onto android devices. However, as the file structure and compression is the same, you can simply change the file extension to .apk to install it on your device. Thanks, Nick
