Android Advertising ID – What string do I use?

I received an email from Amazon saying I should upgrade to the new SDK and I need to use a new form of ID for the new API version 5.4.46. Physically, what identifier do I use for Amazon Ads? Do I use the same Application Key (something like: 08fxxxx ... xxxxfc4) or is there a new Android Advertising ID I need to use? If so, where do I find it? Barry.

Well seems not much technical support here , we are also waiting for 2 days to hear if we can add the admob ads using third party extensions and also how to make the app compatible with amazon Fire TV .... Seems amazon may have launched the app store but their main focus remains the core goods market , they have left the developers to fend for themselves ... Also they stopped the ANE support for all developers in adobe cs 6 ... if you stop support for something atleast provide support for the alternative ... Any ways hope some one at amazon will listen and help app developers .... Ron

Thanks Amazon for your speedy response :Smirk: I did some research – this issue seems very misleading. From what I can tell, this new Advertising ID from Google is intended to identify, anonymously, the End User so that he/she can set preferences for the types of ads that will be presented in the apps he/she uses. The ad provider or developer can query and use this identifier to modify the ads presented. It is not intended to identify the developer but is used to identify the end-user/device. I noticed a new section in the Accounts/Google section of the Settings on my Nexus 5, Ads Preferences. To answer my question I should continue to use the same Application Key to identify my application as the one requesting the Amazon ad. Am I correct with all of the above? Barry.

In order to upload your application to the Google Play Store after August 2014, your app is required to use Google Advertising ID for ad targeting. Your app does not need to use this ID directly, and you will continue using the same Amazon App ID you have been assigned. In order to continue advertising through the Amazon Mobile Ads API, however, you will need to upgrade to the latest version (5.4.46) and include the Google Play Services API, following the instructions here: http://developer.android.com/google/play-services/setup.html And here: https://developer.amazon.com/public/apis/earn/mobile-ads/docs/quick-start#A...https://developer.amazon.com/public/apis/earn/mobile-ads/docs/quick-start#Add%20the%20Google%20Play%20Services%20SDK%20to%20Your%20App It's important you follow both of those instructions closely so that your app can continue to receive relevant Amazon ads for your users.
