Length of Purchase Token

Hello, is there a reason why the length of the purchase token is up to 512 letters? The limitation for indexes on MySQL InnoDB is 255 letters, so the Amazon purchase tokens prevent us from optimizing our database here. Google, Apple and Facebook all work with tokens that fit into a VARCHAR(255). Thanks
