Integrate Fling SDK into Amazon Music and Video apps
Amazon's seeming lack of support for Fire Stick and Fling in their own software ecosystem is astounding and frustrating at the same time. Why hasn't the Fling SDK been integrated into Amazon's own apps? It is a major shortcoming of the Fire Stick vs. Chromecast that users can't use their smartphone as a 2nd screen and control media from my mobile devices without being within visual range of a television connected to the Fire Stick. I have speakers on my back patio, but I can't start or control music from outside because Fire Remote merely emulates a remote and the Amazon Music app doesn't cast to the Fire Stick device. Amazon Video is a little different, in that it's always used in conjunction with a television, however why shouldn't it be able to operate as a 2nd screen, showing the X-Ray metadata on a mobile device instead of overlaying it on top of the video content. It's would arguably be preferable to search for and select content on a mobile device and start it on the Fire Stick from there (especially if you're keeping kids entertained and want direct influence/control over their selections).
Hello We would like to point you to the Amazon Instant Video app on Fire tablets. This app supports the second screen use case with a rich set of background information about the movie/TV show such as actor bios, trivia, etc. -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201423010 The Amazon Fling SDK is our effort to offer the second screen functionality to third party developers, so that even better experiences can be built. Additionally, the Amazon Echo companion app lets the customer select music from his/her library and select device (Fire TV and Echo) where to play - completing the music flinging story. Thanks and Best Regards,
