Is it worth developing for Kindle?

At the start of the year we got very excited about the possibilities for Kindle development. Amazon were making a lot of noise about how good their systems and app store were and Kindle looked like a via platform for our app(s). So, we took the plunge and released Kindle versions of our initial apps only to find that sales were diabolical. What we sell in a month on Amazon we do in a day on Google & Apple's app store. I get that the Kindle market is smaller than the others, but the lack of any appropriate stats from Amazon (overall sales, Kindles sold, market size etc) makes it impossible to make an intelligent decision on whether it's worth developing, selling and spending marketing dollars on the platform. Has anyone else experienced the same thing, or is our app just not suited to the Kindle demographic (whatever that might be..)
