I don't understand how amazon prices the apps

Hello, I am completely new to the amazon app store. I have learned that amazon determines the price of the app? How does that work? Can they price it free? I am currently developing a game app, and was wondering what I can expect them to price it at. Thanks!

As I know, you may determine the price of your apps. But in fact, Amazon has a separate minimum limit of price for different markets. For example, the limit for app in US market is 0.99 USD.

Hello moneymitch, While there isn't any indication of country of origin in the inquiry, you may find this reference of value. [1] Before setting your desired sales price, as a suggestion scan the app store for applications that are similar to the one you are building. This will provide valuable feedback from the success of others while providing a range of acceptable app price points. One might also include In-App-Purchasing [2] to boost sales revenue by providing a game expansion pack or planned upgrade for instance. The range I have seen is from $0.00 - $9.99 You may also find these of interest. Look for the following headings within the above [1] referenced document. "Q: How do I change the list price of my app in any of the available international marketplaces? You can edit list prices by marketplace by selecting the radio button that says I’ll set my own list prices." "Q: What royalty will I get paid for international sales? Amazon pays developers 70% of the marketplace list price for all sales." Consider the legal impact. See Bulleted item #5 and #3 [4] "5. List Price; Royalty Payments and Reporting; List Price. The “List Price” for an App for an Amazon Marketplace . . . " "3. Payments to Amazon for Developer-Sold Items Amazon Fees. If, in a Developer-Hosted PC Game that has a List Price of $9.99 or less . . . " Found this article packed with ideas on monetization strategies. Hi Moneymitch, As a default setting, Amazon will use the base list price you have already provided for your app to calculate a marketplace list price for your app in the currency of each marketplace. As a default setting, Amazon will calculate a marketplace list price for your app based upon the base list price you have already provided for your app. To change the price of your app in a specific marketplace, sign in to the Distribution Portal and go to the My Apps tab. Once there, select the app for which you would like to edit the list price, and click on the Availability and Pricing tab. You can edit list prices by marketplace by checking the box that says Marketplace list prices. That will expose the option to edit the list price for each marketplace. For any Amazon Marketplace in which we display purchase prices inclusive of VAT or similar taxes, the list price is inclusive of those taxes. However, you will be paid a royalty calculated using the list price exclusive of those taxes. For example, if the list price for your app in an Amazon Marketplace is 1.15 Euro and that Amazon Marketplace displays prices to customers “ inclusive of 15% VAT,” the list price used for the calculation of the royalty is 1.00 Euro. To change the pricing of your IAP items by marketplace, log in to the Distribution Portal and go to My Apps. Select the app associated with the IAP item, choose In-App Items, and go to the Availability and Pricing tab. You can edit the marketplace list prices by checking the Marketplace list prices box. That will expose the option to edit the marketplace list prices by currency and marketplace. The default setting is to have Amazon calculate set marketplace list prices for your IAP based on the U.S. price of that IAP item, using the appropriate currency conversion rate.
