Can I run a HbbTV App on the Amazon Fire TV?

I've tested an app on the Amazon Fire TV using the Web App Tester tool. However, I'd like to try and get a HbbTV app running on the machine. Does Amazon Fire TV support HbbTV? Or does it have to be an web app?
