New manifest checks & publishing

I'm looking to publish an update of an app and the following popped up: This APK’s manifest conflicts with 2 of your targeted Amazon Fire devices. Starting in October, any APK update will require an updated manifest to maintain your current device support. Click on “View device support” below for more information on how to address conflicts. When I went into more information it was because my manifest has touchscreen capabilities listed but I also selected Fire TV and Fire Stick as targets. The touchscreen support is for swiping left and right, and I also have the left and right directional buttons on the remote doing the same function. Is this just a warning that will cause them to look for things that don't work during testing, or will it block submission (or remove from the store entirely) once we get to October? I've done some searching, but details are a bit scarce.

In case anyone else runs into this, apparently the only thing required is adding this to your manifest:

Once it is October, any new apk update will require an updated manifest if it currently has issues. We are not currently enforcing the manifest for the Amazon devices, so if you have a required touchscreen for example you will not be compatible with the Fire TV since it does not actually have a touchscreen. It should not remove any apps you currently have in the store, it will only apply to new apk updates for existing apps and entirely new apps. -Nick

I'm also hitting a problem with the new manifest checks. I'm about to update one of our apps, and the portal reports that "Fire HD 10" and "Fire HD 8" won't be compatible because they don't support "android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch". All the other (older) devices are fine, so I assume this is a mistake and the Fire HDs do in fact support multitouch. Here's a link to a screenshot (I don't see any way to attach the image here, sorry): https://www.dropbox.com/s/0haekdtv01w82jq/fire_multitouch.png Any chance this can be fixed soon? My users won't be happy if they're unable to upgrade, and if possible I'd like to avoid doing more large SFTP uploads just to tweak the manifest.

Hi, What you are seeing are simply warning messages. The Fire HD 10 supports multi-touch so there shouldn't be any issue here, and we'll look into getting that warning fixed. Thanks, Nick

Hello, I would like to enquire about the warnings that are mentioned in the posts above; has the fix for that been postponed? If so, could you please give an update as to when that is scheduled for? Also, could you please confirm that even if (only) these multi-touch warning messages appear when submitting an app to amazon, the app (and it's updates) will be available in Fire HD 10 or Fire HD 8, as they indeed support multi-touch? Thank you, Martha

Hi, I can't give a timeline on the warnings being fixed, but yes, I can confirm that the app and its updates will still appear on the Fire HD 10 and HD 8. -Nick
