Got myself into a jam and can't get past device registration

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I've got nowhere else to turn. My curiosity (and stupidity) got the better of me and I gained root access to the Fire TV. During my development I added lines to the Fire TV's hosts file. I have since factory reset the Fire TV, but my hosts file additions survived the reset and must be redirecting some key Amazon domains because now the Fire TV wont get past the initial setup registration screen. On ethernet it says my Amazon login information is failing. On wifi it says there is no internet connection as soon as I submit my login information (even though it connects successfully moments before). I can't access the hosts file since the factory reset has disabled ADB debugging. I can't enable ADB debugging because I can't get past the registration screen to load settings. I do have access to fastboot via USB, but I'm not familiar with it to know if it can help. Is there any way to edit/delete/overwrite the hosts file? Or maybe a way to get into recovery? Or a way to flash the latest .bin update file (assuming that would reset the hosts file)? I know this isn't exactly the place for this kind of help, but I'm desperate here. I really don't want to tell my boss that I hosed the Fire TV.

Since you have got root access of the device and we cannot support a rooted device, the only option is left to replace the hardware. Sorry.
