[Raspi] first second of any voice response is missing

I have successfully set up the AVS reference implementation on a Raspberry Pi 2. However I noticed an issue where the first second (or shorter) of the voice response to any question being asked is always missing (or cut). For example, if I ask "what day is today?", Expected heard response: "Today is Saturday. September 12" Actual heard response: "..aturday. September 12" Has anyone encountered the same issue and had a fix for it? Thanks.

I found out that the issue I was seeing pertains to only the case of using hdmi as the audio output. If I use the headphone jack as the audio output, then there seems to be no dropping. I was not able to find any working solution to the hdmi audio dropping, even it seems to have been a known issue.
