Which Amazon OS / API to target for distribution?

Google posts a pie chart online about Android OS adoption: https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html This pie chart lets developers know how much adoption different versions of Android OS have so we can decide what API version to build against. Does Amazon have anything like this pie chart for what percentage of devices run which version of OS? thanks, John Roberts

Hi John, Sorry, but we do not have a pie chart like that. We suggest that you set a minimum API level of 10 to ensure compatibility with all Fire Tablets: https://developer.amazon.com/appsandservices/support/submitting-your-app/tech-docs/02-submitting-an-android-app#Supported API Levels

The problem with not having such a pie chart is that when I move forward to an API that requires a minSdkVersion beyond 10 (such as using the Maps v2 API), then I am obsoleting a bunch of existing tablets and reducing my market reach. I'd like to make a more informed decision about moving forward on an API, to know how many users will be left behind or how many I can reach with a newer API. John Roberts
