Put a watermark on images so others cannot steal images!

I have a few of my shirts ripped off pixel by pixel.

The easiest way to stop these thieving people would be if Amazon placed a watermark on the image that is viewed by the customer, so no one can copy that image off Amazon's page and then reupload it as their own design.

While waiting for that feature to manifest, perhaps you could watermark the images yourself before you submit them?

That would mean the watermark would be printed on the shirt.

Amazon will never use a "visible watermark" for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones being that Google Shopping excludes from its search results any and all watermarked items, and that is a lot of site traffic

Amazon merch products ARE NOT ON GOOGLE SHOPPING anyway.... that's not a valid point.

Not currently they aren't, that's not to say they won't be added once capacity increases. But that is just one of many reasons why watermarks aren't the good theft prevention idea you may think they are.

I wonder if Amazon could disable the right-click function if someone clicks on our artwork if it would keep the unskilled thieves from trying to steal the artwork? It might deter them enough to move on, though, I don't know. Some places have a watermark and that does not get printed on the design. There has to be a way to discourage thieves from stealing designs. I know sooner put up a design and find it on some other site, and most recently I am finding my designs on Amazon sold by thieves at lower prices. Totally discouraging.

Watermarks are good... But only as long and as good as the first Copycat got a watermark upon a stolen design! Think about the tragedies that are following from the "real designers" if they see their somewhere on the web stolen designs with a watermark on it on amazon... They would freak out! And: Copycats don´t care about watermarks! They even steal it with watermarks!

the trend is away from watermarks, they don't really work either, some customers think there part of the design, they make designs less clear on small screens, google penalises them, people tend not to purchase designs with watermarks..maybe ten years ago but now and into the future there a bit like amazon suddenly introducing flash to the site I'm afraid, other ingenious ways need to be found to stop thiefs.

Since this always gets nay sayed. How about model mock ups? How about smaller images for the public to view instead of huge blown up flat shots of our shirt? How about using a method of piecing the image together when clicked so that the whole image is not stored in 1 place? There are ways to make changes. Of course there are far more ways to make excuses.

I was surprised they didn't already! But then I guess Amazon doesn't use watermarks anywhere on Amazon. However, at least the original artwork cannot be stolen by anyone. They would really need to recreate it to have any chance at making a viable copy for use on their own products.

They don't care. The low-res mockup image they steal looks okay in the low-res mockup on their copycat listing. The buyer gets crap, but the money's in the bank by that point.

Something definitely needs to be done. I designed my first shirt last week and it got stolen instantly. I had the site remove it but I don’t have time to be searching on other sites to make sure my shirt design hasn’t been stolen.

The wrinkle effect isn't so bad, IMO.

I know thieves are inherently lazy, but removing watermarks is nearly trivial if you know what you are doing and have half decent software. And if your art doesn't include photographic type imagery, it is going to be fairly easy to reproduce even with a relatively small low resolution image to go by. On the other hand, most people with the requisite skills are probably busy creating their own art rather than wasting time stealing other people's poorly executed bad ideas.

Hide your name in the artwork... that's what I do.
