Just an idea, I am not a programmer or developer in any way, I want to learn how to start programming, but for an absolute newbie to this, I have no idea where to look or how to start, even the tutorials are mind blowing.
My dilemma, I have started to upgrade my home to a Smart home, using Hive I can use Alexa for lights, heating, etc... and as I have a Samsung Smart TV, can change channels and do all that fancy stuff (yes I know it is a bit sad, but love it) however, I can use Alexa and create routines so she turns off the lights and TV, turns on upstairs lights when I go to bed.
The only thing that I can't do is turn on the TV.
I won't bore you with all the details, but I have found that I can turn on my TV with WoL protocol, I run it on my phone or PC, but it would be nice if this could use Alexa. All devices now that have Ethernet or Wireless connectivity has somewhere a label with it's mac address and that is all that you need.
So I thought that I could create an Alexa skill and in a settings box somewhere just enter a mac-address for Alexa to fire of a magic packet with the mac-address of the TV to turn it on.
But it is far more complicated than I imagined and to be honest, I have no idea what I am doing.
Can anyone give me any advice or help in anyway.
