CRASH: -[AMAdManager loadAdDidFailWithWebRequest:] on Mobile Ads iOS API version 2.2.15

This crash is already mentioned in the Release Notes of the iOS SDK at:

https://developer.amazon.com/public/apis/earn/mobile-ads/ios/docs/release-notes

Unfortunately it's not "a low number of crashes". Sometimes we register peaks of hundreds of daily crashes. Yesterday broke a new record with 750 crashes related to this issue.

Amazon, please fix this.

It's unacceptable (and unprofessional) if an ads SDK crashes an app because of a network issue.

I am also seeing this. Last night I had about 400 crashes related to this issue and the day before I had 0. The app has been in the wild for a week. Is it related to a particular ad?

Based on the crash information from Crashlytics, it seems related to error handling of a failed URL session. So it might be related to connection problems, i.e. a server timeout of Amazon, or even a temporary server down time.

Hi all,

A quick note that we updated the Mobile Ads SDK for iOS and released it a couple of days ago. We fixed app crash issue related to 'NSInvalidArgumentException' in [AMAdManager loadAdDidFailWithWebRequest:], so hopefully you should no longer see those crashes.

Please download the latest SDK here: https://developer.amazon.com/sdk-download - Thanks!

Hi @Levon@Amazon

Thank you for finally releasing version 2.2.15.1 with the long awaited solution. We'll release an app update with it soon, so hopefully we can report that the issue will no longer occur.

Hi,

Just to let Amazon know that we are removing Mobile Ads SDK. This crash is serious enough however we don't get any feedback after such long time.

If you are not providing active support why do you keep the SDK available ?

Any updates? About to release an app with this SDK but the error has stopped me from even being able to finish testing right now!

@Levon@Amazon @everybody@Amazon

I received 2 disturbing emails from Fabric Crashlytics:

  1. [Velocity Alert] 1.15% of sessions crashing
  2. Stability Alert: Crash-free users has dropped to 85.4%

Both are caused by your crash issue, which occurred over 2,000 times the last few hours:

I reported this issue 19 days ago, which gave you the time to analyse the issue and release a fixed SDK. That could have prevented this recent outburst of crashes, the biggest amount of all times.

But instead Amazon deliberately choose to do nothing. Amazon doesn't even have the decency to apologise, or even respond to this topic.

Amazon, what are your next steps to show that you are a responsible company?

Same here. At about the same time you had your crashes. 1400+ crashes in a span of an hour. Unfortunately I can't afford this amount of crashes. I have turned Amazon Ads off.

Why has this issue not been resolved yet? Does Amazon even have a development team?

This issue has caused many thousands of crashes in my apps over the past few months and nothing has been done about it. I will be removing Amazon Ads from my apps if this is not fixed soon.

It appears to be caused by some kind of server downtime judging by the fact that I only see these crashes once every few weeks and all of the crashes happen at the same time. Server downtime is fine, but it really shouldn't crash my apps.

We'll also have to disable Amazon ads for now, in 1 hour we got ~32k crashes because of this bug.

Please, let us know when the issue is fixed.

Also saw hundreds of these crashes around 13-14 hours ago. They stopped after a few hours but seem to have started back again. I got an email from Crashlytics that my crash-free users dropped to 42.3% so Amazon ads are single-handedly destroying my app right now (even though I haven't updated that app in 4 months).

Can't believe this has been an issue since April 2016 and you guys haven't fixed it yet. I've never had a problem of this scale with any other ad network. Please fix whatever on your servers is causing the crash or release an updated SDK or I'll have no choice but to pull Amazon out of all my apps.
