How do I debug Alexa skills so I can hit breakpoints?

I really hope I haven't overlooked something obvious, but I am having a hard time debugging the code I write for Alexa. Is there a way to run the skill and actually hit a breakpoint, say, when the intent is received? Thanks! Matt

The only way I've been able to do this is invoking the skills directly via EchoSim. I updated the README ( https://github.com/jjaquinta/EchoSim) and if you follow the info on how to test a Lambda Skill, you can run EchoSim in your development environment and invoke your skill via that. If your skill is in Java, that is.
