This code should have never made it into slf4j-api.jar

Everytime i test my uploaded lambda function, I get a runtime exception

This code should have never made it into slf4j-api.jar

Context: I'm new to the entire java ecosystem - eclipse, maven, jars, classpaths etc. I've built the skeleton of a skill based on the samples in the alexa skills sdk. I've got the skill and lambda function wired up and jar uploaded.

From what I can gather, SFL4j can't find a logger and bind to it. So I've added a dependency to log4j in the pom.xml.

Relevant entires from .classpath file:

<classpathentry kind="lib" path="D:/Eclipse/eclipse/DownloadedLibraries/log4j-1.2.17.jar"/> <classpathentry kind="lib" path="D:/Eclipse/eclipse/DownloadedLibraries/SFL4JLogger/slf4j-1.7.21/slf4j-api-1.7.21.jar"/>

What am I missing? What else should I look for?

thanks in advance for your help!
