Maps API

The Amazon maps API is very similar in implementation to the deprecated GMaps SDK V1. Are there any plans to make one that is API similar/compatible with the V2 maps? We have just started a fresh on our code base and are V2 maps only and don't want to do a lot of extra work to use the Amazon maps at this time.
