about a template of an online radio station skill & ...

hi!

i am trying to make a simple alexa skill to listen an audio stream (online radio station)

i found 2 very interesting templates:

https://github.com/alexa-samples/skill-sample-nodejs-audio-player

and

https://github.com/JennJin/single-live-stream

(thanks to ryan and jenn!)

-when i have tried to import them, none was succesful! (a messagge that there was an issue was shown many times)

-can you help me please to guide me step by simple step how to import them?

-any ideas about the failure?

-can anyone help me in please, order to build a simple alexa skill to an online radio station?

and send a "simple" guide step by step to accomplish this skill, please?

i shall appreciate your help

thanks in advance!

Hi Kurt,

Firstly, ignore Jenn's project, it's now too old and uses a legacy version of the Amazon Alexa development kit.

To use Ryan's project you're going to need:

1. An Amazon Alexa developer account (easy to setup)

2. The Alexa command line interface ASK CLI v2 installed on your local PC

Then you can use the ASK CLI "new" command to import Ryan's project into your Alexa environment

https://developer.amazon.com/en-US/docs/alexa/smapi/ask-cli-command-reference.html#new-command

i.e. ask new --template-url https://github.com/alexa-samples/skill-sample-nodejs-audio-player

Then you should have Ryan's skill available to use in development mode on your Alexa devices. You can modify the skill code to play an online radio station rather than hardcoded MP3s. However you probably want to try the above first and just get Ryan's code working.

hi all!

hi andy, again...as you may guess i am extremely saturated, there are teras of information and knowledge (new to me) and until this moment i installed what i had to and i am in the umbral of the skill...but:

-i do not know how to configure ask cli (before the first skill it its necessary to implement a command....and

- i don know hot to make number 2, means the ask cli v2 (because th information founded says thta the project has to migrate from v1 to v2..

-and finally , i am quiet frozen.... (i have installed visual studio and alexa skills kit,...but then ?)

andy, if you have time, can you send me please 3 videos (one for the first task for ask cli, the 2nd for install cli v2 (if necessary) and the 3th for the ask new: ...)

perhaps it sounds extremely naive, but i feel as a robot following instructions (i do not understand the majority of whats i read and create)

well, perhaps it is the process

i shall appreciate your help!

thanks in advance!

all the good!

kurt

Hi Kurt,

Sorry, don't have the time to create videos.

All you need to do is to stall the latest ASK CLI, which is version 2.

Are you using Windows or some other operating system ?

Here are the Amazon instructions to install the ASK CLI v2

https://developer.amazon.com/en-US/docs/alexa/smapi/quick-start-alexa-skills-kit-command-line-interface.html

You don't need to follow step 2 (setting up an IAM user). Try steps 1 & 3 and report back!
