AMAZON.DATE returns without date with day

I've noticed that Alexa often fills an AMAZON.DATE slot without the day.

For example, if the user says, "December 25", my skill (usually) receives the string "2020-12".

However, if the user instead says "December 25th", my skill receives the correct string ("2020-12-25").

Is there a way to allow Alexa to correctly interpret a date in either case? Quite a few users of my skill have complained about this behavior.

It looks like others are experiencing this as well: https://forums.developer.amazon.com/questions/235234/amazondate-returns-january-11-as-2021-01.html
