There are several kinds of files: 1) Backup file containers. It is image or hard drive and if you modified only several files, you need to upload zillions of data while real delta is only a few megabytes. 2) JFFS file containers. 3) Broken upload resume. When client upload via reliable connections he usually get socket force close with "Connection reset by peer" error. Re-uploading whole file while half if it has been already uploaded is disastrous. The best solution would be upload VCDIFF/RFC 3284( https://github.com/jmacd/xdelta) deltas for file modification.
