I work for one of the largest casting providers having integrated Fling SDK for Fire TV casting and app install into more than 25 apps from major sports, news and entertainment publishers. It appears the Fling SDK has not received any updates in almost two years and is becoming problematic for modern mobile apps to integrate.
At this time there are two legacy issues with Fling SDK that are becoming a concern for publishers:
(1) Android SDK still uses Apache HTTP Library which has long been deprecated and is no longer available on Android devices. We get around this by asking these video apps to add `<uses-library android:name="org.apache.http.legacy" android:required="false"/>` in their manifest.
(2) On iOS, the Bolts SDK version used by Fling seems to use UIWebView which has been deprecated by Apple and is beginning to reject app updates that have references to UIWebView. So we need to update the Bolts version.
Is the Fling SDK team aware of these issues and when can we expect fixes? If the SDKs are no longer supported can Amazon share API documentation to invoke the Fire TV Fling or Install WhisperPlay service from mobile apps? Fire TV casting and app install are critical features for many publishers and they do not want to lose support due to seized maintenance of the Fling SDKs.
