Interstitials?

Hello. Is Amazon going to have interstitials anytime soon? I would love to put Amazon interstitials on my app. And also banners are somewhat decadent... for example, on my next game to be released in a couple of weeks I decided to not use banners, and put only interstitials (and since Amazon doesnt have it yet, I wont serve ads from Amazon on that game yet). A few other developers I know are doing the same. Thanks.

Hi Pedro, Could you please clarify what did you mean by "Interstitials"? Any example app or game? We generally do not answer questions about future products or services, which this falls under. Please stay tuned on Mobile App Distribution Portal or Blogs ( https://developer.amazon.com/blog/index.html) for any updates related to this.

Interstitials are full-screen, exclusive ads. And they usually pay more than banners because they work much better, as they grab the user attention for a period. While Banners have a Click-Through Rate of around 0.2 - 0.4%, it is common for an Interstitial to have a CTR of 5%. As for examples, almost any game nowadays uses Interstitials between stages, or when the user closes the app. Just check a random game and it will likely have an Interstitial ad. While with Amazon Ads it's possible to simulate the Interstitial behavior using the largest banner, it has some drawbacks: - it would require a lot of extra effort from the dev (creating a full screen view to hold the banner, centralizing the banner on the view, showing and hiding the view) - it wouldn't pay so well (it would pay like a regular banner I guess, maybe a bit more due to higher CTR) - the largest banner size is still small (300x250), so on a HD or a Full HD device such as the new Fire HDX the banner would look ridiculously small on the center of the screen I understand that you can't comment on future products, but please pass the suggestion along, I'm sure it would be very well accepted by the devs that are implementing Amazon Ads. As I said, myself and a few devs I know aren't even implementing banners anymore on their new games, and going for Interstitials only. Thanks. Message was edited by: Pedro Ros

I'd like to add that it can be problematic to add Banner ads to an app that wasn't designed with that in mind from the beginning. It is much easier to add a full screen ad at various points in the game flow (after a level, etc). The reality of the marketplace is that IAP is very low on Kindle, so ads are the better choice. In fact you require developers to implement ad support if they want to have a chance to be considered as a featured app. To require an app redesign its UI to support banner ads in the off chance that you will feature the app is just not worth it. Given that we are unable to redesign our app for banner ads, is there any issue with us using a 3rd party ad system like Flurry, RevMob, Chartboost, etc. on Kindle Fire devices? At least that way we can generate some revenue from interstitial ads.

Hi Rogoway, Interstitial ad is not supported in Kindle so far. You can ad third party interstitial ads to generate revenue in your app. But we would appreciate if you use Amazon Mobile Ads in your app. Thanks.

It seems that Interstitials are not welcome at all. I recently recieved this email copied below. The full screen ads referred to were Google Admob Interstitials. I have now removed them and just left the Amazon and Admob banners. The irony is that on the G Play version of the ap I have removed banners completely in order improve the user experience. Some clarification would be appreciated. Thanks Dear Developer, In a recent review of XXXXXXXXXXXXX, we noted the placement of mobile ads negatively impacts the user experience, and enjoyment of your app. We have temporarily suspended serving mobile ads in your app due to the implementation of pop-up or full-screen ads. When you have updated your app to improve the user interaction, please email us at Amazon-Mobile-Ads@amazon.com. Your Amazon Mobile Ads Team

When you have updated your app to > improve the user interaction, please email us at > Amazon-Mobile-Ads@amazon.com. > > our Amazon Mobile Ads Team That email you received is so weird/cryptic. I honestly didn't understand completely what's being said. But the part "We have temporarily suspended serving mobile ads in your app due to the implementation of pop-up or full-screen ads." is clear to me, even tho it doesnt say which one your app has ("pop-up" or "full-screen ads"), it certainly says that full-screen ads are forbidden. I had no idea about it, I have no idea why it is forbidden, and it clearly goes against what is being said on the forum (that full-screen ads are on the roadmap of Amazon Mobile Ads, and many other messages saying it's OK and/or of people using it). I'm confused now.

Thank you for the posts. We would like to clarify that interstitial ads served by third party ad networks are supported on Kindle devices. The Amazon Mobile Ad Network does not support interstitial ads today, but we appreciate the feedback and will consider the input for our future roadmap.

Any news on this? Do you have any ETA about when Full Screen Ads will be available in the Amazon Ads SDK?
