Alexa Presentation Language and Fire TV support

Hello,

I'm starting the development of a skill.

The desired behaviour is that when the user says a given "keyword", the TV plays a short video.

Alexa Presentation Language seems perfect for my use case and I easily implemented a demo with nodejs skill kit that runs smoothly on the Test in the Alexa Console.

My first question is: which hardware should I buy to test my skill on a modern TV? Is a FireTV stick supported or I can use just a Fire TV Cube?

The second one: I can interact with an echo dot and the video output will be shown on my TV, or should I interact with my Fire TV with its own remote?

Thanks,

Riccardo

Thank you for your interesting in Alexa Skills! For your first question, yes, you can use a Fire TV Stick to test your skill. Second question - custom skills are generally device specific, meaning that you need to interact with the Fire TV if using the screen on that.

Thanks Jason, but my FireTV doesn't have Alexa Voice Remote .

Can I use Alexa on my Fire TV Stick Basic Edition [0], maybe plugging some external microphone?

Thanks,

Riccardo

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to test this using the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition - you need to be testing with voice if testing with a device.
