Question about the Kindle Fire HD offer

Hello, I'm using the Amazon Ads API since September because of the Kindle Fire HD promotion. I'm not quite happy about the earnings so far (compared to a mjaor other mobile ads provider) but I kept going with it because the 200€ Kindle Fire kinda makes up the loss. And there's always the chance that fill rates will improve… :) But now the price for the Kindle Fire was drastically reduced to 139€ – that would make it a pretty bad deal. So my question is: does the Mobile Ads Promotion still refer to the old Kindle Fire HD that drastically dropped value or will developers get the new model (Kindle Fire HDX 7), whose value is closer to the initial value? Best regards Florian

The RPM is a bit lower for me than two other ad services I use, but it's the fill rate that is very low. I am only getting a 32% fillrate with Amazon Mobile Ads. However, I'm sure it's like any new ad service in that regard; iAds also used to have a very low fillrate but they've improved substantially. I agree with your points about the HD vs HDX and the substantial price costs of the original. It took me over two weeks of dedicated work to successfully integrate the Amazon Mobile Ad system into my app (as it is not a standard Java-only Android app), which also included a fallback plan for when the ads fail and a manual timer to refresh them since the SDK does not support auto fetching of new ads at a set interval. It would be a nice incentive for Amazon to consider sending eligible participants the recently unveiled 7" HDX instead. It will be available commercially within 1-2 weeks after this campaign ends. However, I also respect that Amazon only stated the 7" HD so that is what I will expect.

Sadly, that's only for US developers. Devs from Europa/Asia don't seem to be worth it for Amazon.

I thought Amazon would want to get it's latest device into the hands of developers so they can develop for the new devices, not the old ones. Hopefully they'll ship the HDX to everyone

Hi All, Sorry for the late response. US developers will recieve a Kindle Fire HDX. International developers will receive a Kindle Fire HD and Amazon will pay to cover the import fees + S&H for Int'l devs. In some countries, these fees equal the cost of the device. International developers should note that the Kindle HDX is not aqvailable in all markets, and we are not able to provide the HDX to International developers as part of the Kindle Fire HD Mobile Apps promotion. Qualifying developers will receive an e-mail starting week of October 21, 2013 and terminating on Nov 30th, 2013 detailing the fact they have qualified, ask where they want the unit shipped to and other details.

HI Thanks for the response! I understand that the upgrade is courtesy of Amazon and not included in the original promotion terms. I'm also grateful for getting a Kindle Fire HD for free with the promotion (and thanks for paying the import taxes, but that could've been avoided by shipping from an EU warehouse, in the case of EU developers). But I can't avoid feeling a bit like a second class developer, not being based in the US (even if my app is mostly downloaded in the US). Additionally, the HDX can be already ordered and will be shipped in a couple of week in Italy too, so this reason for not upgrading EU developers doesn't make much sense. And, when I entered my shipping details as prompted by the email, I got this response: "Your Kindle Fire HDX will ship within 2-4 week after your registration is confirmed." (I have taken a screenshot of that :) ) Any chance to get the upgrade to HDX anyway, at least in countries like Italy where available ? I'd be happy to pay import taxes in that case... Thanks Paolo

I guess Amazon doesn't care about that, because "the Kindle HDX is not aqvailable in all markets" (even though I can order it right now from Amazon.de or other European Amazon sites…)
