Japanese Furigana as required field?

In our apps, we have several IAP items. When trying to add a new item with descriptions in various languages, i found there is a new required field "Furigana" for Japanese. Since the item description is in Katakana already, i feel it doesn't make much sense to add Furigana. So here goes: 1. Why is it a required field? 2. If i just add the same description there, how will it be displayed? 3. How is this handled for our old items, which don't have the Furigana field set?

Hi Josh, Sorry for delay in getting back to you. 1) Furigana is required since we may not know how to pronounce the title that is displayed in Kanji. There are many ways Kanji characters are pronounced and some game titles tend to use very difficult Kanji characters with multiple ways of pronouncing them. 2) If the title is in Katakana, you can copy the same field or even you can input whatever you want. Currently this field is not used for display purpose (will not be displayed on Amazon appstore) as this field is for Amazon internal use only. 3) Old information is legacy and will not require an update (but you can update it any time).
