Our app, Voyage of the Starship Lexicon, has an icon with a black border. After I download the app from the appstore to a Kindle Fire HD 7" device, the app icon that appears on the Carousel shows a narrow white border. The border seems to be one pixel wide, and has occasional "breaks" in it. I believe that this issue is NOT related to anti-aliasing in our source images, as I have tested a version that does not use any anti-aliasing. Please see our app at this link:

The versions in the appstore do not show the border. (disclaimer: I am in no way associated with these companies or their apps. I have no way of knowing whether they intended to carefully anti-aliased their app icons and then add a jagged white border.) I would like two things, either one of which might solve this problem for all of us. First, Amazon could look into this issue and try to fix it - since these borders are NOT present in my original icons, it is definitely the case that Amazon is causing, and therefore could fix, the issue. Second, Amazon could post to this forum some information about what processing (the software and the commands given to that software) is used to perform the processing. Thanks for your response. I believe that this issue is NOT specific to our app - I included links to several other apps whose icons appear to be affected the same issue. I have contacted Amazon support by going to the link titled "Support", then clicking "Contact Us". I received a reply suggesting several things that I could do to try to correct the problem, but the suggestions did not solve the issue. This "white border" issue is caused by Amazon. I know that this is true because I can "side-load" my own app, with the properly-sized icons included in the .APK file, and the icon looks exactly as I intend. On the other hand, I submitted the same .APK file to Amazon, along with the same icon images. When I download my app from the appstore, the icon has been modified. I would like to have some information about how the icons that I upload (as specified in
https://developer.amazon.com/help/faq.html#AppDetails) are processed by Amazon. If it is possible to do so, I would like to hear from an engineer who can describe how the icons are resized - what software or library is used to load and save the .PNG files, and what algorithms are used to resize the images. This is important stuff for developers. We need to have some control over how our software is presented to the users. Furthermore, if app icons look bad, it makes the app store look bad, and that makes Amazon look bad. Fixing this is good for EVERYONE. Please help. - Victor
