Sound with HP Pavilion 27xw

Hi, I have a late 2013 retina Macbook Pro. I'm using an external display (HP Pavilion 27xw) and external speakers running from my MacBook. I know the firestick cannot be used with the MacBook as it doesn't have an HDMI input, but my HP display has HDMI inputs. Problem is, my display doesn't have built in speakers. As long as the speakers are plugged into my rMBP and the firestick is plugged into an HDMI input on the external monitor, I should be good to go, right? If not, what are my options? Thanks, Rob
