Women's T-Shirt Sizing Unacceptable!

Can someone explain to me why women't t-shirt sizes only go to XL, but men's go to 3XL?!?! Yes, women have the option to buy a men's size, but why should they have to do that? Would a man want to buy a women's cut shirt? Women of all sizes want to be able to purchase the neckline and sleeves like the smaller sizes. In today's world, this hardly seems fair or acceptable. I would like to buy the women in my life of every shape and size some cute t-shirts, but buying them a men's t-shirt is hardly okay. This shouldn't even be an issue at all! Why do women have to fight for sizing that actually fits? Come on, Amazon! The AA t-shirts already run so small and only fit women size 8 and below! Totally ridiculous.

I agree 100% I am a Merch T-shirt seller and I have problems with the sizes of the women's tee shirts. They run TOO SMALL! Way too small for American women, at least. I am a size 10-12 in women's and ordered a Medium. It looked like something a child might fit into. Certainly not me. So I ordered a large. It was STILL too tight.

Your tees seem to be designed for young, thin women and not for the average full-figured American woman. What is labeled medium should be a small. What is labeled Large should be a medium.

I will order an extra large and see if that fits. The problem is that as a retailer and a woman, I know that women hate to wear anything labeled "Extra Large" unless they are actually obese.

I agree with this completely. There is no reason why women's T-Shirts are not available in 2XL and 3XL because manufacturing companies make them.

I agree. I personally find it annoying that they don't have more size options for women. Our bodies are different from men's bodies. Women who wear a size beyond XL still have womanly shapes. Let the men have to deal with buying Women's cuts for a change and see how they like it. The option of larger women's sizes exist out there in the world so why won't Amazon provide the option?

Well the "Anvil" and "American Apparel" shirt types that Merch is currently using are only manufactured up to 3XL in Men's (AA 2001 / Anvil 980) style and up to 2XL in Women's (AA 2102 / Anvil 880) style. So you wouldn't be able to get 3XL for women, but the obvious reason why they don't have the 2XL size available for them is cost. Wholesale prices for S-XL sized shirts are normally the same, and above that the price goes up. In the case of Anvil 2XL it would cost Amazon about 75% more than an XL . Other than cost though a big question I guess is why they are using those particular Brands/Styles. I can understand the use of American Apparel because it specifically appeals to those who want "American made" but there have been a lot of complaints and poor reviews for the Anvil shirts, and there are other brands out there that go up to 3XL in women's styles. The most obvious choice would seem to be Gildan 500L or Fruit of the Loom L3930R styles, both having S-3XL sizings, also those 2 options both have Men's sizings up to 5XL & 4XL respectively, and both options are extremely similar in wholesale price to the existing Anvil shirts and in some cases slightly cheaper (for S-XL sizes). I think I'm right in saying that Gildan Anvil and American Apparel are actually all owned by the same Canadian company nowadays. . If it is simply a cost thing though it again brings the question of what's going on with the Merch platform itself since most other platforms allow for different prices for different sizes and even Amazon Marketplace items do that as well, so why wouldn't that be programmed in on day-1 for Merch as they are presumably building in the cost of larger shirts into the base price we all pay on ALL sizes, so if you sell mostly S-XL sizes you're effectively subsidising everyone's sales of 2XL-3XL men's shirts (which also cost more wholesale).

100% AGREE!! And it's not only larger women who cannot fit into the shirts - even thin women who are busty cannot fit into the XL, especially since the thin cut premium t-shirt is really sized more for juniors than women. I got a 2 star review from someone who "loved the design and colors" but said that even though they ordered a size up the shirt didn't even come close to fitting.

I actually also wish a different shirt was used for Amazon's premium shirts as this brand/cut just doesn't cut it. THEY ARE TOO SMALL, regardless of the size ordered!

But yes, it seems discriminatory to women to only offer sizes up to XL while men's shirts go up to 2XL.

I agree 100%! I am a plus-sized DESIGNER of my t-shirts and I cannot wear what I DESIGN!!!! How tragic is that! I would LOVE to wear my t-shirt designs! How does it look for ME not to support what I'm selling?!?!?!!!!

Not everyone was blessed with a small body or chest! (I am busty) I feel it's sad that we are still stuck where curves are not "welcome" in the marketplace! I would LOVE to see the Women's sizes to go up to 4X since the shirts run small. I vote a hardy YES PLEASE!

P.S. We should not even have to ask for this. It should be automatic...

Very large people expect to pay more for the very large sizes but a womens XL just isn’t big enough! I would guess that if they bumped the women’s and men’s sizes both up to 5XL you would get lots more sales. For tshirt campaigns within groups many people have Amazon do the regular sizes and Teespring do the plus sizes which doesn't always work as the 2 don't have all the same colors. This is discrimatory.

100% agree! I just complained to Merch about this very fact. It's sadly out of touch with current fashion trends as well, when brand after brand is FINALLY extending their sizes. And it's offensive to a big chunk of my audience who will never be able to purchase my t-shirts. Asking women to buy a men's cut because there is nothing for them beyond an XL is also sexist and body shaming. Get with it, Amazon, and do the right thing.

I wonder this too. Especially because lots of Americans are massively overweight - I think there would be a big market for larger sizes.

Regarding the sizes: it really hurts to get lots of 1- or 2-star reviews because the shirts run too small. All negative reviews I got are caused only because of too small sizes. The customers mentioned the designs are great. After the heavy royalty cut in january the new return policy hurts sellers additionally. Most of the returns are probably because of too small shirt sizes - what would be avoidable.

Until the premium women's tee sizes are fixed, we should be allowed to note in the bullet points that "this shirt runs small".

Can we at least have the option to deselect the women's shirt in our listings that are already live? (I don't list women's premiums on my new listings.)

Two points I agree with wholeheartedly:

1. The women's shirt sizes are far too small. I don't know what sizing guide the shirt provider is using, but these sizes would be too small even in Asia (I lived in Japan for 25 years). A woman's S is more suited to a child's L than a grown woman.

2. I have bought about 20 of my own designs. I see people here referring to "Anvil/American Anvil" but only one of the shirts I have bought was made in America. All of the rest were imported. One of the biggest reasons people give me for NOT buying a shirt is the shirts are not American made. This is a very important issue among people responding to my advertisements.

3. Both Fruit-of-the-Loom and Hanes produce American-made shirts with no tags. Every single day I get people specifically requesting tagless American-made shirts, and they often refer directly to either Hanes or Fruit-of-the-Loom. I know cost is an issue, but when ordered in bulk directly from the manufacturer both of these company's products can be had for less than a dollar per shirt.
