Can't Connect to Raspberry Pi Through VNC

Summary:

When you reach step 2.2 of the Alexa AVS Raspberry Pi guide, you'll be instructed to start "tightvncserver" and you may see a message in Terminal which says in part:

New 'X' desktop is raspberrypi:1

However, if you then go to other machine with your VNC client of choice and use "raspberrypi:1" as the hostname, you may run into trouble. The message in Terminal assumes that you already know that VNC uses port 5900 by default and you are to add "N" (in this case "1") to that to connect to the new virtual desktop created.

Instead of using raspberrypi:1 as the host then, try raspberrypi:5901
