How do I add or remove device compatibility to my live app?

Last modified: Feb 13 2023

Summary:

As your app continues to evolve, so will the number of devices your app supports. Below you will find information on how to add or remove the available devices your app supports in the Amazon Appstore. In these scenarios, we assume that your app is already live in the store. If you need further assistance on how to submit a completely new app to the store, please see Publishing Android Apps to the Amazon Appstore.

Please note that when your app goes into "Live" status, you are no longer able to edit your app's intended device support selections. You must create a version update via the "Add Upcoming Version" link. When you do so, the current APK file/app bundle of your "Live" app version will be copied over to the new version of your app.

Add Device Compatibility

If you wish to add support for new devices, you must first create a new version of your app. Once you have clicked the “Add Upcoming Version” link, please go to the “App Information" section of your app submission.

Using the Existing File(s)

If you would like to add a new device, while using the existing APK file(s)/app bundle(s):

  1. Click the “Edit” button at the bottom of the page.
  2. Go to “Existing Files” section > "Edit" link after "[###] Supported Devices".
  3. In the resultant pop-up window, select the device(s) you would now like to support on each device family tab by flipping the toggle to the right (green), and click "Save".
  4. Complete the rest of your app submission by making any desired changes on each tab, remembering to “Save” on each tab.
  5. When all of the tabs have a green check mark, click the “Submit App” button, at the top of the screen, to submit your app for testing and review.

Using a Separate File

If you would like to add new devices using an additional APK File/app bundle:

  1. Click the “Add new App File” button, located near the "Existing File(s)" section on the right side of your screen.
  2. This will open the "Add App Bundles or APK Files" section for you to add the new file(s)/bundle(s)
  3. Once the new file(s) are uploaded, use the "Edit" link after "[###] Supported Devices" to update your device targeting selection. NOTE: In the “Device Support” section, you will only be able to target devices that are not already targeted by your existing APK file(s)/app bundle(s). You can check for this by hovering your mouse cursor at the end of any device name that has a question mark icon.
  4. In the resultant pop-up window, select the device(s) you would now like to support on each device family tab by flipping the toggle to the right (green), and click "Save".
  5. Complete the rest of your app submission by making any desired changes on each tab, remembering to “Save” on each tab.
  6. When all of the tabs have a green check mark, click the “Submit App” button, at the top of the screen, to submit your app for testing and review

Remove Device Compatibility

Just as with adding device support, you must first create an upcoming version of your app. Once you have clicked the “Add Upcoming Version” link, please go to the “App Information" section of your app submission.

  1. Click the “Edit” button at the bottom of the page.
  2. Go to “Existing Files” > "Edit" link after "[###] Supported Devices".
  3. In the resultant pop-up window, select the device(s) you would no longer like to support on each device family tab by flipping the toggle to the left (gray), and click "Save". NOTE: We do not recommend reducing device support as this creates a poor end customer experience.
  4. Complete the rest of your app submission by making any desired changes on each tab, remembering to “Save” on each tab.
  5. When all of the tabs have a green check mark, click the “Submit App” button, at the top of the screen, to submit your app for testing and review.
